I learned the 4 magic phrases to respond to any question, further they also allow you to find out more information from the person asking the question and finally buy you more time to think about further answers…

The responses are:

1. That’s interesting, tell me more.

2. That’s interesting, why would you say that?

3. That’s interesting, why would you do that?

4. That’s interesting, why would you ask that?

With these 4 phrases you can respond to anything, from shutting people down when they attempt to confront you; or to buy some time to clear your head and gather your thoughts on a considered response to their actual question; or even just seek more or further particulars in relation to their actual question.
